The Al Thawra Hospital, Sana'a, Yemen

Based on a russian hospital from 1968 the architects Heinle, Wischer und Partner modernized and extended the building complex from 1976 till 1985.

How does this hospital look like after over 20 years in use?

On the occasion of a journey to Yemen in 2009 I had the possibility to visit the Al Thawra Hospital. The report about the actual state, including an interview about the planning process in the 1970s with the responsible architect Winfried Schmidbauer, was published in the german architecture magazine bauwelt on July 16th 2010.
